Quick Election Facts
WHEN: February 2, 2010
WHAT: School Mill Levy / School Bond Election $617 million most of which will be going directly to brick & mortar construction/design. The remainder will be used to upgrade instructional technology. There is No Tax Increase. If approved, property taxes will continue at the current rates.
WHO: All voters registered before January 5th at 5:00pm that live within the Albuquerque Public Schools District Boundaries are eligible to vote in the February 2, 2010 Bond Election. This includes the entire Bernalillo County and those registered voters within the portion of Sandoval County that is The Village of Corrales.
WHY: Refurbishing, rebuilding old schools, building new schools (143 schools), most of which are more than 40 years old. We are at the end of the current Capital Strategy of $1.2 billion and begin the next 6-year strategy starting in 2011 (about $1 billion). Currently, 63% of construction in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County is school-related. This is extremely important to local economic health, local job prospects, and educational needs. Construction projects will continue to boost the economy. In the last 4 years, 11 new schools have been built (3 million square feet of new construction) and 5 million square feet of renovations to existing school buildings. All projects have been completed on time and in budget. Our promises have been kept from the last election (2005). All projects approved in 2005-06 school tax funding elections are either completed or started (All obligations fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled). A large focus of the last School Capital Plan was to catch up with growth areas and overcrowded schools. The main focus of this plan is to renew, refurbish, and rebuild old schools and provide new educational and instructional technology. This plan will also begin to provide some facilities for Charter schools.

POLLING LOCATIONS: Early voting for the election begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8 and continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, Jan. 29, at the following locations:
